CV Length Doesn’t Matter - Quality and Impact Do
There’s endless advice on LinkedIn about the “right” length for a CV. Honestly? Length isn’t the point. From my experience working in Finance, HR, and senior support roles in education, the length of your CV should be determined entirely by how well it showcases the key experiences and skills that will help you land your next role.
It’s not about squeezing everything into one or two pages or trimming your story to meet some arbitrary page count. What matters is highlighting the experiences and achievements that are truly relevant to the job you want.
If you’ve got meaningful, specific experience that strengthens your application, include it, whether that makes your CV two pages, three, or even four. The content is what counts, not the number of pages.
In today’s AI-driven recruitment world, this is even more important. CVs stripped of detail just to hit a page limit risk being overlooked by automated screening tools that look for real substance. Even if full AI use is more common in larger organisations or tech-savvy sectors, the trend is growing and every candidate should be aware.
So, forget the obsession with CV length. Focus on:
Quality – clear and compelling achievements
Relevance – experiences that align with the role
Impact – outcomes and contributions that show your value
Your CV is your personal marketing tool. Make every word count, no matter how long it is.
